Competency Based Logbook And Clinical Manual In Orthopaedics Including Aetcom For Mbbs Students (PB)

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the undergraduate medical education curriculum and teaching methodology in the recent past. The revised curriculum Competency Based Undergraduate Curriculum for the Indian Medical Graduate has competencies for each subject so that a student could attain clearly-defined learning and skills. Also, there is an incorporation of integrated teaching and skill development. AETCOM and self-directed learning have been introduced. There is also an emphasis on communication skills, basic clinical skills and professionalism. This is a paradigm shift from the traditional classroom-based teaching followed so far.
Keeping in view these principles, this Logbook has been prepared accordingly.
✔ By having a logbook and logbook-based/oriented teaching, both the students and teachers will clearly know the required/expected teaching curriculum for any particular subject, for example, orthopaedics in this context.
✔ This Logbook will help in achieving the target/aim of teaching in a more defined and structural way.
✔ It will help in:
★ creating a student-driven and self-guided teaching program.
★ avoid unnecessary/unrequired or duplication of teaching.
★ help in effective and productive utilization of time and resources.
★ also help in better assessment by teachers with more of an objective rather than a
★ subjective method.
✔ The Logbook is also a record of various activities by the student, such as:
★ Attendance
★ Participation in sessions
★ Documentation and record of completion of pre-determined activities.
★ Attainment of selected competencies
★ Overall participation and performance by students.
✔ The Logbook will also help in deciding the eligibility of students for appearing in university exams
